About 1,300 miles from the nearest Sunday school, in a small Argentine village, children from the indigenous Toba people gather to devote time to singing, Bible studies, and prayer. There is expectation in the air as the children flow in from all directions on Sunday mornings. The church is in Nalá, located in the northern part of Argentina. In this area, missionary Kenth Johansson has lived and worked since 1977. At the age of 75, Kenth is still a driving force in the spiritual work and leads the church’s activities with his Toba wife, Veronica. She and her sister, Mabel, serve as teachers at the Sunday school where they also provide an opportunity to help the children who struggle with reading and writing.

In the room next door, the older students eagerly learn about the light of the world, Jesus. They read the Bible aloud and passionately discuss it. The youth have wholeheartedly received the words of Matthew 5:14–16 14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” –Fourteen-year-old Melani writes: “When we ask Jesus to forgive us, he who is the light of the world comes into our hearts. In this way, through our way of living, we can reflect on the light of Jesus. God wants other people to see the light so they too can grow closer to Jesus and leave sin behind.”
The students radiate both gratitude and an eagerness to learn more. In this crowd of young people, the Bible message strikes an untouched chord within them and they feverishly seek Christ.

Kenth’s Church is a sanctuary where children can encounter God, relax and play, and where young people from divided homes meet with adults who care about them. They challenge each other to testify of Jesus to others in their community and to show, in action, who they are and what faith they carry.
“Let us let the light of Jesus touch others through our love and friendship. Let us show sincerity, speak kindly, let us control our anger and do what is right. God wants Jesus’ light to illuminate other people through our actions so they can see him in our lives and praise him.” –Florencia (teacher)
